PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Since co-founding HE3 in early 2019, Tarek has been involved in the nuclear industry supporting the analysis, design and licensing efforts for new SMR. He has also led several projects including seismic evaluation of existing buildings, design and peer-review of new buildings, and the development of seismic risk models for industrial and educational facilities to help prioritize within large portfolios of structures for the purpose of maintenance and retrofit.
Before founding HE3, Tarek worked on a variety of large-scale projects at Bechtel's San Francisco office which he joined in 2007. One example is the currently under construction Nuclear Power Plant at Vogtle Units 3&4, where he was involved at different stages of the project to support the licensing effort starting from site response analysis to develop the seismic design motion, soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis to determine seismic demands for structural design and equipment qualification, and seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRA) for seismic margin evaluation. Other projects included licensing permit applications for several nuclear power plants, Hanford Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) and SPRA for new and existing plants.
